Functioning within the framework for professional evidence based nursing practice, the clinical specialist supports and assists the nursing staff, management team and the Director of Nursing. Has 24 hour accountability for ensuring quality, cost-effective delivery of culturally competent patient services for specific patient populations, in a defined area across the continuum. Transfers knowledge, skills and abilities to the nursing staff. Is recognized as a professional role model and clinical expert; and promotes a professional environment that supports continuous learning. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of shared governance councils. Reports to the Director of Nursing Master's degree in Nursing is required. Approximately five to six years of progressively more responsible job related experience with knowledge of nursing theory and practice in order to evaluate and develop revisions to the delivery of care systems, develop and conduct educational programs. Licensure as a registered nurse in the District of Columbia is required.
